Spanish Lessons: The Imperfect Tense

There are two groups with different endings in the imperfect:

-ar -er/-ir
Yo hablaba comia vivia
Tu hablabas comias vivias
El, ella, usted hablaba comia vivia
Nosotros hablabamos comiamos viviamos
Ellos, ellas, ustedes hablaban comian Vivian

There are only three verbs with irregular forms:

SER IR VER
Yo era iba veia
Tu eras ibas veias
El, ella, usted era iba veia
Nosotros eramos ibamos veiamos
Ellos, ellas, usteds eran iban veian

Vivia en Costa Rica                                                        The English equivalents are:

(A) simple past                                                                 I lived in Costa Rica

(B) past progressive                                                       I was living in Costa Rica

(C) “used to + infinitive construction”                  I used to live in Costa Rica
