Here we explain all irregular in the preterit. Some are just spelling changes others are irregular verbs in the preterit.

1.  Regular verbs that end in- car ,gar and zar change the spelling of the preterit”yo” form in order to preserve the same sound as the infinitive

Buscar(also:pescar,sacar,etc)

No: Yo busce BUT:yo busque
Llegar(also :jugar,pagar.etc)No:yo llege BUT:yo llegue
Almorzar(Also:empezar,realizar,etc)
No: Yo almorze BUT: yo almorce

2.  Verbs in the- ir group that have spelling changes in the present also has spelling changes in the preterit but not always the same changes and onlyi nthe third person singular and the third person plural

Presente: o:ue e:ie e:i
Preterito: o:u e:I e:i
Dormir & Morir divertirse Pedir
presente preterito Presente Preterito Presente Preterito\
Duermo dormi me diverto e diverti pido pedi
Duermes dormiste te divertes me divertiste pides pediste
Duerme durmio se diverte se divirtio pide pidio
Dormimos dormimos ns divertimos ns divertimos pedimos pedimos
Duermen durmieron se diverten se divirteiron piden pidieron

3.  The following irregular verbs(always ending in-er&ir) have an accenturated I expect when between to vowels(that is in the third person singular and third person plural), where the I changes to y.

Caer:cai,caiste,cayo,caimos,cayeron

Creer: crei,creiste,creyo.creimos,creyeron

Leer:lei,leiste,leyo,leimos,leyeron

Oir:oi,oiste oyo oimos oyeron

Al verbs ending in –uir: construer: contrui,construiste construyo,construimos* construyeron* the letter”I” in the second person personal and second plural don’t ned accet mark to be accentuated.this is because the u 7 I together form a dipthong and that case the accent always comes on the second letter. other verbs :incluir, sustituir, influir, huir etc
