Spanish Lessons: Direct Object (Pronouns)

The direct object receives directly the verbal action. You can find the direct object by asking:

Who/-What            +           Subject                 +          verb?

Examples:

John buys a newspaper. (Juan compara un periodic)
Who /What John Buys? A ewspaper: D.O
John buys it. (Juan Lo compara)

It would be the Direct Object pronoun that replaces” a news paper”

In Spanish the Direct Object pronouns are:

Singular Me (me)
Te (you)
Lo/la (him/her,you,it)
Plural Nos (us)
Los/las (them,you)

Position

-In an affirmative statement with one verb, the verb the direct object pronoun will immediately precede the conjugated verb.

Examples: Yo  te conozo. Lo vemos Tu me amas Ustedes lo quieren.

-In a negative sentence with one verb, the direct object pronoun is placed between the word no( or other term of negation) and the conjugated verb.

Examples: Yo no lo se El no nos ve jamas.

-In an affirmative statement negative sentence or question with two verbs( first verb is conjugated and second one in the infinitive form) there are two options:

1. Places D.O pronoun directly before the first verb

Examples: Yo te quiero ver. Yo no tengo que La quieres hacer conmigo?

2 Attach the D.O pronoun directly to the second verb.

Examples: YO quiero verte. Yo no tengo que leerlo. Quieres hacerla cinmigo?
